Chris Combest

Dr. Chris Combest joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University in August of 2009 and has also taught at the University of Illinois, the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, Illinois Summer Youth Music, and Stephen Foster Music Camps.

Principal Tubist with the Danville (Illinois) Symphony, Chris has performed with The Louisville Orchestra, The U.S. Army Field Band, the Illinois Symphony, Sinfonia da Camera in addition to many regional orchestras in the Kentucky, Illinois and Indiana areas. He has been a Finalist in the Leonard Falcone International Tuba Competition (2006), The Krannert Debut Solo Competition (2007 and 2009) and The International Tuba Euphonium Conference Solo Artist Competition (2006 and 2008).

Dr. Combest received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Illinois in Champaign IL and holds additional degrees from the University of Louisville and Eastern Kentucky University. His primary studies have been with Mark Moore, John Jones and Jim Willett with additional studies with Fritz Kaenzig, Roger Bobo, Alan Baer, Daryl Johnson and Stacy Baker.

Dr. Combest is a member of the American Federation of Musicians (AFM), The College Music Society (CMS) and The International Tuba Euphonium Association (ITEA) to which he contributes as a new materials reviewer for the association’s journal.
