General Requirements

  • Music for yourself and accompanist properly arranged in a three ring binder.
  • Piano
    • play all repertoire melodies on piano before singing
    • play 1-2-3-4-5-4-3-2-1-3-5-8-5-3-1 in all twelve keys fluidly, and singing ba-bi
  • Attend 7 SIUC concerts and get your recital card stamped.
  • Perform for studio/combined/convo at least once for an A
  • Accompanist at all lessons
  • Recorder (digital preferred)
  • Half of required repertoire memorized by 8th week of semester.
  • All music memorized by 14th week of semester

Repertoire Requirements:

  • MUS 140        
    • 1st semester, 2 hrs. credit, 4 memorized pieces
    • 2nd semester, 2 hours credit, 5 memorized pieces
  • MUS 140-540, 1 hr. credit, 4 memorized pieces
  • MUS 240-540, 2 hours credit, 6 memorized pieces        
  • MUS 140-540, 4 hours credit, 8 memorized pieces     

Foreign language requirements:

  • 140 1 foreign language
  • 240: 2 foreign languages
  • 340+: 3 foreign languages

Attendance:

  • If I miss a lesson, we make it up. If you miss a lesson, we don’t make it up.

           

Accompanist:

  • You are responsible for finding an accompanist, rehearsing with them once a week, and working out scheduling with lessons, rehearsals, etc.

Practice:        

  • Vocalizes 10-15 minutes a day
  • Repertoire: at least ½ hour a day for half-hour lesson, 1 hour a day for an hour lesson.

Grading

            Lessons:                       60 pts   You receive a grade for each lesson, up to 4 points

            Convo/Studio/Comb:    15 pts   You receive a point for each Tuesday session attended

            Jury:                             25 pts   Your jury grade from the faculty is averaged.

            TOTAL                       90+ A, 80+B, 70+C, 60+D, <60 F
